1. Why is Brunswick Street Station being refurbished?
Brunswick Street Station was built over 30 years ago and is now an integral part of the Valley, providing for the growing number of people living, working and enjoying the restaurant and night life.
The biggest priority for this project is to improve the accessibility and safety features of the station. QR Citytrain and TransLink are using this opportunity to also provide a much needed facelift to provide a facility worthy of the Valley’s vibrant, youthful and multicultural community.
5. How will the construction works be organised?
Brunswick Street Station is the network’s third busiest and the large volume of trains passing through the station will make construction a lengthy and complex task. Adding to this difficulty is the station’s unique location below a privately owned retail complex.
QR Citytrain and TransLink request patience and understanding throughout this project as they make every effort to deliver this upgrade as quickly as possible.
The project will be constructed in 2 stages. Platforms 3 & 4 will be closed for refurbishment from July 2007 until March 2008. Once construction on Platforms 3 & 4 is complete and the platforms are operational, Platforms 1 & 2 will be closed for refurbishment.
6. How will train services be affected?
During the first stage, Platforms 3 & 4 will be closed from public access between July 2007 and March 2008. This will mean that trains will not stop at these platforms.
Some passengers travelling to and from Brunswick Street Station will need to travel to Central, Eagle Junction or Bowen Hills Stations (see example journey information) and change there for a service which stops at Platforms 1 or 2 at Brunswick Street Station.
During the off-peak times of 8.00pm and 6.00am and between 8.00pm Friday and 6.00am Monday, all trains usually scheduled to stop at Platforms 3 & 4 will stop at Platforms 1 & 2. This will provide an easy solution for late night revellers to make their way home.
QR will continue to make every effort to minimise delays during construction and ensure that passengers are informed of changes well in advance.
9. What steps are QR Citytrain and TransLink taking to assist people with disabilities?
QR Citytrain has worked closely with disability groups on design and safety features such as lighting and tactile colours.
QR Citytrain and TransLink have written to almost 50 local disability organisations to inform them of the refurbishment and will keep them informed as the project unfolds.
An orientation day will be held at Brunswick Street Station to familiarise people with disabilities and their assistance dogs with the operational changes.
Additionally, QR Citytrain staff will be available to help passengers with any assistance they may require.
13. Where can I find more information?
Posters and flyers will be on display at all attended Citytrain Stations to inform passengers of the refurbishment and of the platform closures. Announcements will also be made by QR guards prior to arrival at Brunswick Street. Passengers are also encouraged to ask QR train and station staff for information on platform closures and alternative routes.
From 2 July 2007 through to 18 August 2007 an information booth has been set up at Brunswick Street Station. This booth is manned by QR staff to assist passengers with service times and advice.
Customers can contact TransLink for service times and enquiries on 13 12 30.
