Regional Freight Systems
Queensland Rail operates regional freight systems both in South East Queensland and Interstate.
Around 270,000 twenty-foot equivalent containers transit the South East Queensland Rail freight system and terminal each year. This is despite the fact that national economic conditions are contributing to a slowing of demand. Goods for the Brisbane metropolitan market are transhipped to trucks, while others are shifted to narrow gauge trains for transport on our network throughout Queensland.
The South East Queensland network spans 689 kilometres of track, stretching from Robina on the Gold Coast in the South to Nambour on the Sunshine Coast in the North, and from Moreton Bay in the East inland to Rosewood in the west.
Queensland Rail also operate freight systems outside of South East Queensland where we are responsible for performance in the Mount Isa, North Coast, Western, Maryborough Area, South Western, Central West and Tablelands systems in Queensland.
